God Up in Heaven

producer/Director/Writer

God up in Heaven is one of two experimental films made at USC School of Cinematic Arts each year. Released in 1993. Featuring the song “God in Heaven” by the Ellen James Society.

It’s been 25 years since I made this film and it’s weirdly relevant today. I made this film in response the (1st) Gulf War, the Rodney King beating and the LA riots. And we’re still right there, facing similar issues and feeling similarly overwhelmed by police brutality, religion, race and gender, war and armed conflict, and especially overwhelming media that is more hypnotic than truly informative. I felt strongly we have a personal responsibility to do something in the face of atrocity, even if it feels difficult, even if you don’t know what to do. So I made a film.” – Susan Lambert
